The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is a court established on the basis of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), based in Strasbourg, France, which reviews acts of legislation, jurisprudence and administration relating to violations of the Convention in all signatory states. All 46 members of the Council of Europe have joined the ECHR. Therefore, with the exception of Belarus, Russia and the Vatican City, all internationally recognized European states, including Turkey, Cyprus and the three Caucasus republics of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, are subject to the jurisdiction of the ECtHR.[1] Anyone can appeal to the ECHR alleging that a Convention right has been violated by one of these states. The President of the Court of Justice has been the Icelandic judge Róbert Ragnar Spanó since May 18, 2020.
