Celle Macra is the homeland of the Acciugai. At the end of the nineteenth century and in the first half of the twentieth century the inhabitants of its villages left with carts, went to take anchovies from the sea and marketed them throughout Northern Italy. It was one of the itinerant trades undertaken by the inhabitants of the Maira Valley. In Celle Macra there is the Museo degli Acciugai.
