Beautiful, impressive fountain that is an eye-catcher in this square. Magnificently decorated with flowers. Nice!

Interesting backgrounds:
Winnenden - Once upon a time there was a town that discovered not so long ago that it had already been granted market status (it is actually written without a "t") by Heinrich von Neuffen in 1212 and was thus elevated to a town. Winnenden can look back on 800 years. “We are the oldest town in the Rems-Murr district,” said Mayor Hartmut Holzwarth – Backnang followed a few years later, between 1220 and 1230.
Reason enough to honor the anniversary in detail. For example, through a new figure in the market fountain. The previous model made of Crailsheim shell limestone depicted Lady Justice with a sword, scales and a blindfold. But this goddess of justice was not granted eternal life: the work was increasingly crumbling and had to be dismantled in 2009. However, a restored Lady Justice should not be placed on the pedestal as a successor. Rather, they recognized the opportunity to implement a historical event.
The local council decided against the opinion of 70 percent of citizens
Five sculptors were commissioned to design a couple consisting of a minstrel and a virgin. Background: Gottfried von Neuffen, son of the city's founder, was one of the most famous minstrels of the time and described his love for a Winnender, a yarn spinner, in the so-called Winnender Song. The text can be found in the famous Manesse manuscript and is therefore part of world literature.
But which artist should be chosen? In a vote in the local newspaper, 70 percent of the 1,220 participants favored the model by the Winnenden artist Martin Kirstein. However, last October the local council decided by a majority in favor of the closely held couple of Karl Ulrich Nuss from Weinstadt. Indignant letters to the editor followed. Nuss’ work shows “the climax of Gottfried’s eating of girls”. One Winnender complains about the "defacement" of the ancient city center: "As long as I'm alive, I won't set foot on this ruined market square again." Others, however, urge more calm and encourage the critics to "also give themselves a big hug." , then sing a song and a “Viertele schlotza”.
