The water of the Hasselbach was used industrially at the location of today's Hasselbach reservoir. The first industrial development dates back to 1565, when a flour mill was built. Later also created in the entire Hasselbachtal other mills, furniture and sawmills and a plant for electricity production, which was in operation until 1928. Where today is the Hasselbach reservoir, was created in 1674 a paper mill, which later became a furniture factory and produced after multiple expansion until 1965. After leveling the factory in 1981, the Hasselbach reservoir was created in its present form and handed over to the public on 2 May 1982. The reservoir has a water surface of 1.3 ha with a volume of 13,000 mÂł.

The Hasselbach connects the Donoperteich with the Hasselbachstausse. Many day trippers meet here, especially on weekends, for a walk along the small stream in the local recreation area. The place has a varied history. A paper mill was built on the site as early as 1674. Around 1900 this was then converted into a sawmill. In 1965, however, operations were discontinued.

In 1978 this former commercial property was acquired by the city of Detmold and the remaining buildings were demolished. Construction of the reservoir began in 1981. It was completed just one year later. The reservoir has an area of about 1.4 hectares and a capacity of about 13,000 cubic meters. You can get more information about the reservoir directly on site on the information board.
