Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery is located on the former castle grounds of Kemmel Castle. The cemetery dates from December 1914. The village of Kemmel suffered greatly because of the Kemmelberg, a strategic height in the war. The cemetery remained in use until the Spring Offensive in April 1918 when the site was captured by the Germans. The cemetery was later recaptured during the final offensive in September 1918.
In the meantime, the cemetery had been severely damaged by the bombings.

This cemetery contains the graves of 1027 British, 80 Canadian, 1 New Zealander and 23 Australians.
