The structural decay progressed steadily from the 16th century. In 1952, an attempt was made to stop this by repairing the tower, the roof and the interior. As a result, St. Stephen's Church was re-consecrated on April 13, 1958. However, due to further damage to the roof and collapses in the south wall, church operations had to be stopped. The last service in the church took place in 1968 and the following year the interior of the church had to be closed off. The inventory was moved to Stötterlingen and Osterwieck in 1972. After the roof and the south wall of the nave completely collapsed in 1981, the building was to be demolished in 1986. The commitment of the local parish in cooperation with the monument protection authorities prevented this. In 1990, the first phase of the renovation of the building began with the work of a support group, so that the 1000-year consecration of the church could be celebrated in 1995.

Interesting, even though it is a ruin! On the side where the information board is, there is a door, which was open today.
