There has been a ferry connection between Zons and Urdenbach since 1396. In the Middle Ages, it brought merchants across the Rhine who wanted to go to Maastricht and Liège. From 1929 the Zons family Hahn ran the ferry service. In 2004, Wolfgang Jansen took over the ferry.

How the first Zonser ferry came to the Bahamas

Hans Hahn's first ferry from 1929 has an eventful history. The “Zons” ferry boat, originally built in 1927 without an engine, received a side engine as early as 1929. After the war, Hans Hahn loaned the "Zons" to Krefeld-Uerdingen in 1948 and sold them to Linz am Rhein in 1952. In 1953, the "Zons" ferry was rebuilt and renamed "Finte". In 1961 the "Finte" had become too small and came to Langst-Kiers. The ferry shuttled between Kaiserswerth and Langst under the name "Peter". In 1968, the Schäfer ferry company took over the ferry crossing and renamed the “Peter” to “Fritz Köhler” in 1976. In 1981 the "Fritz Köhler" was sold to the building contractor Ernst Josef Nonn. She served as a working ferry during the renovation of the monastery on the island of Nonnenwerth. During this time - until 1984 - the "Fritz Köhler" was anchored in Remagen. After completion of the conversion work, the ferry was sold to the Bahamas in 1984. From here, the traces of the “Zons” ferry boat are lost.
