On the Bromsberg plateau, 52 linden trees (originally there were 58) with their trunks and crowns form the ground plan of a church. In the chancel there is an iron lectern with a cross and the steles for the baptismal font. In 2009 the tree church was inaugurated with a service. Since then, a number of baptisms and weddings have taken place on Spangenberg's highest mountain. Stone tables and benches invite you to rest, and you also have a wonderful view of the city and castle from here. The tree church was originally set up as a memorial to commemorate the 58 Spangenbergers who died in World War I. The memorial goes back to the plans of the not undisputed architect and later mayor Theobald Fenner. Fenner was the city's mayor during the Nazi dictatorship and was responsible for the systematic expulsion of the Jewish population and the persecution of political opponents.
