The Katharinenstift, which was set up in 1888 thanks to endowments by the Aachen businessman Gerhard Rehm (1816–1892) and his wife Katharina, née Ervens (1818–1887), on their Gut Weide, has now become a retirement and nursing home. The original purpose was the organization of outpatient nursing in the surrounding villages, the operation of a domestic school for girls, the admission of women of both denominations as pensioners for the purpose of nursing and the admission of Catholic orphans. The organization was the responsibility of the Sisters of Charity according to the rules of St. Augustinus, who took over the Katharinenstift as the 13th branch. In 1910 the associated chapel was consecrated by auxiliary bishop Joseph Müller from Cologne.

The Katharinenstift was built about 110 years ago by Augustinian sisters from Neuss to take in orphans and pensioners looking for relaxation. The original purpose was also the organization of outpatient nursing for the surrounding villages, the operation of a household school for girls.
In the post-war period, the former boarding school became a children's home and then a primary school.
In 1965, when the last sisters left the Katharinenstift, the children's and convalescent home was closed. The G.o.E. Ozanam from Wegnez then set up the Katharinenstift as a retirement home and took over its administration. At the end of 1994 the VoG Katharinenstift took over the administration.
Today, the Katharinenstift is a modern facility that has 103 places for seniors. Source: kathleos.be/index.php/unsere-organisation/geschichte
