In the 1930s it was set up as a work camp for unemployed young people who had to work in the forests of the Eerde Estate. The then owner of the estate, Baron Philip van Pallandt, had built a barracks camp here at the request of the Central Office for Unemployment Care. During the Second World War, a department of the Dutch Labor Service was established there. During the war, socially weak young people were also employed to get used to order. In the last year of the war the camp was used by the Hitler Youth.
After the war, it was used as a selection camp for young people who wanted to work in shipping until the summer of 1951. They received basic training in that area.
From 1951 to 1961, 26 former KNIL soldiers of Moluccan descent stayed at Camp Eerde with their families.

A nice memorial area to take a moment to read on local history, but also great place to picnic.
