The rage of Marsyangdi River is slowly dying, captured in a series of hydropower projects. About 20 kilometres of Marsyangdi river is dry or has very little water due to operations of hydro projects during the dry season.

There are already three hydro projects in operation on the river. The 69 MW run-of-river hydro-electric plant Marsyangdi Hydropower Station in Tanahu District, about 4 km northwest of Mugling, the 70 MW Middle Marsyangdi run-of-river hydro-electric plant, about 8 km south of Besisahar Bazar, Lamjung District and the 50 MW Upper Marsyangdi A run-of-river hydro-electric plant located in Bhulbhule, Lamjung District.

About six kilometres of the river is dry downstream of the Upper Marsyangdi A dam site, for about seven kilometres the river flows inside a tunnel below the middle Marsyangdi dam site in Lamjung district and then a stretch of about seven kilometres is dry downstream of the dam site in Tanahu District.

This raging mountain river accompanies you on the Annapurna Circuit from the start (Besisahar) to Manang (3540 m). You have to cross it several times, often on suspension bridges. Some crossings are not absolutely necessary, since the "new" road is the easiest way, but thanks to the NATT trails, switching to the other side of the river is always worthwhile.
