The mountain villages of Las Canalejas and Los Centenares, together with fifty other mountain villages in the Sierra de Segura, were abandoned in the middle of the last century when the largest hunting ground in Spain was created in the environmental space of the current natural park. The inhabitants were evicted from their villages and their houses demolished so as not to interfere with hunting activities, they left their houses, crops, herds and memories of a lifetime. The Las Canalejas cemetery, on the outskirts of the village, evokes a lifestyle that lies in the sleeping memory of eternal mountains.
