The cross oak stands above the small village of Hürbel am Rangen on the Bocksberg, about 7 km northwest of Ansbach. There is an information board near the oak tree. It is a common oak. Around 1900, at the time of its greatest growth, the oak had a crown extension of a maximum of 39.5 m. Today there is no longer an old tree in Germany that reaches this extension. Over the last 100 years, crown expansion has reduced. Today the crown diameter is just over 20 m.
