To the right and left of the hiking trail, small sand pits can be seen in the Königsdorf Forest, where the people of Königsdorf were allowed to dig up sand for their own use after the secularization of the Brauweiler Abbey until the 19th century (Wolter 2011, p. 280f. and Naturpark Rheinland 2013).
A stone memorial cross at these sand pits commemorates Gertrud Dahmen, who died in an accident here in 1819.
