The first documented reference to a parish in Altengeseke is in a document dated October 26, 1238. The parish church in Altengeseke is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The picture of St. Nicholas shows the saint as bishop of Myra, who is being handed the bishop's staff by an angel. The foundation stone for the present parish church was laid on May 2nd, 1752. The client was Pastor Bernhard Löcke. On July 18, 1756, the parish church was inaugurated. The church tower is in the Romanesque style, the nave in the Baroque style and the chancel in the Rococo style. The church has one nave and three bays. The chancel is single-bayed and straight closed.

The church has two side altars. The northern side altar is dedicated to Saint John the Apostle and Saints Rochus, Sebastian, Charles Borromeo, Philip and Norbert, the southern side altar to Saints Agatha, Anna and Luzia. The origin of both side altars and the artist are unknown. According to the inscriptions, both side altars probably date from 1712.
