This is where the 125 kilometer Nahe begins its journey to the Rhine. Up to the mouth in Bingen, it leaves 380 meters of altitude behind. The source is a nice place for a break. There is a playground in the immediate vicinity.

Near the small town of Selbach in the Sankt Wendeler Land, the Nahe rises at 460m from an enclosed spring. Up to its confluence with the Rhine near Bingen, the Nahe flows through the northern foothills of the Saarland before it reaches the border with Rhineland-Palatinate and finally flows into the Rhine after 125km near Bingen.

And to quote the incomparable humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909 - 1979), who was known to a wide audience for his wit and "Another poem", with a short four-line verse:
"There is certainly a lot of beauty in the element, the wet.
Because you can drink the water.
But you can also - not."
(H.Erhardt)
