Hopman Albert Tjass bought land and the district (canal) here in about 1660. He also had an inn built. In the nearby Hunze, a sluice was built, which was called Tjass bellows. This was important to keep the Hunze navigable. Around 1720 Juffer Anna Tjass (great-granddaughter) owned this area, she is then in her early 20s and lives in the center of Groningen. She did business with 6 girls. A meier worked on behalf of the owner and paid rent through part of the proceeds. Peat was transported to Groningen via the Hunze. Possibly part went to the brick factory of the Tichelaar family (Enzelens) where the Tjass had done business through the sale of land and housing (Garrelsweer). Afterwards, the house was renovated and named after Anna Tjass. (damsel) Tjassheerd. Anna died at the age of about 80 in Groningen.
