church dates from the 14th century. The tower is the oldest part (ca. 1340-1370), after which the cruciform chapel was built around 1400. The choir with pointed arch windows followed during the first half of the 15th century. Later on, a Chapel of Our Lady was added around 1470. In 1873-74 a thorough restoration was carried out under the direction of architect Leonard Blomme.
The pulpit dates from 1705 and is made by Hieronymus Convent. There are also two confessionals from 1778 by F. Bastiaens. The choir stalls from the second half of the 17th century were brought over from the Carthusian Church in neighboring Lier. There is still a 14th-century statue of Jesus on the Cross. The Risen Christ dates from 1614 and the reliquary of Saint Anthony Abbot from about 1750. There are four paintings of saints and Passion scenes from the early 17th century. Our Lady with Child and Saint John was restored in the Terkameren abbey. There it was found that it would date from the middle of the 16th century. The interior contains some valuable corbels.
In 1914 the church was damaged and in 1940 the Belgian army blew up the tower. It was rebuilt with the stair tower (with an almost endless spiral staircase) in 1941-1942 under the direction of F. Blockx and J. Heylen.
