Piece of history: In 1360, the first written about a homestead Drakesteyn, which was lent to Frederik van Drakenburg in 1385. In 1634 Ernst van Reede became the owner of the homestead Drakensteyn. His son Gerard had a new, completely symmetrical octagonal house built in 1640, possibly after a design by Jacob van Campen. The house was recognized as a knight's court city and Gerard became a knight. The village of Lage Vuursche was also built in those days. Knight Gerard had a church built with a rectory, a school, a mill and an inn.
