In 'de langstraat' there are elongated villages with many old buildings. A southern part of Holland had become isolated from the rest of the county after the Saint Elizabeth flood. A long dike was built to prevent new flooding. New Dutch and Brabant agricultural settlements arose along this dike. This series of villages was given the name 'Langstraat'. The Dutch part consisted of the villages of Raamsdonk, 's-Gravenmoer, Waspik, Sprang, Capelle and Besoijen. The Brabant part was formed by Waalwijk, Drunen and Nieuwkuijk.
