The predominant rock type here is anorthosite. The same rock is found on the moon's surface. The so-called lunar landscape consists of sparse vegetation and is hardly fertile. The area was formed by the Ice Age, which is why one can find many traces of the movements of the ice over the surface. One of the most distinctive features are the boulders scattered throughout the landscape, transported by glaciers.
