The Hohenstein in the Süntel Mountains near Hessisch Oldendorf is one of the most impressive natural experiences in the Weser Uplands. The striking cliffs of the Hohenstein rise up to 50 meters steeply above the Weser Valley and offer spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. Particularly impressive are the rock formations such as the Teufelskanzel (Devil's Pulpit), the Grüne Altar (Green Altar), and the Hirschsprung (Deer Leap), which are not only geologically but also historically significant. These sites once served as places of worship for Germanic tribes such as the Cherusci and Saxons.
