Mammertshofen is a small ministerial castle that was probably built around 1230 on a cleared area by marshals of the Imperial Abbey of St. Gallen. The core is a striking, extraordinarily well-preserved megalithic tower block. The complex, which from 1352 belonged almost continuously to the taverns of Castell for three centuries, is now owned by the von Planta family.
