The term "Quaderkalk" is based on the natural blocky segregation of the Schillkalke that can be seen in the quarries, which is formed by two more or less perpendicular fissure systems. There are many different varieties of ashlar limestone, depending on the type of shell remains, the formation of the basic mass, and the proportion of Schill and basic mass.

The limestone quarry near Kleinochsenfurt is now officially one of the 100 most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria.
The quarry, which has been closed for a long time, is located in a nature reserve and has not overgrown thanks to grazing. It offers a rare habitat for specialized species and one of the few well-preserved and easily accessible outcrops in the limestone.Below the geotope is the Triassic Museum. Among other things, fossil finds from this quarry and old quarry photographs are on display.
