The Basilica minor, built in the 13th century, is named after Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, who died here on September 10, 1305 and whose bones are kept in the crypt of the Basilica of San Nicola da Tolentino. It is therefore one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Italy.
