Tips

  • he church in Bisingen has already been renovated and rebuilt several times. When an ancient church was demolished in 1786, a stone slab broke in two and an inscription dating to 1229 is the oldest message from a church in Bisingen. This church has long been a peaceful place of intimate worship and in times of war the church was a place of refuge. During the Thirty Years' War it was badly damaged and could not be saved despite makeshift repairs in 1649. In 1786, after demolition, a new building was started. This was completed in 1795 and is still preserved. It is the rear part of today's church.A hundred years later the church was too small. The nave was lengthened, a spacious transept was built and the apse was moved to the east. This resulted in a floor plan in the form of a cross, which we still have today. The church was inaugurated on St. Nicholas Day 1902. In 1903, the 29 meter high brick tower received a tower clock with four bells. During both world wars only the largest bell remained in the tower. After the Second World War the church was renovated and adapted. A forecourt was built and the windows, some of which had been destroyed by the effects of the war, were renewed.Source: kath-bisingen-grosselfingen-rangendingen.de/wir-ueber-uns/pfarrgemeinden/sankt-nikolaus-bisingen

  • In the spring of 1971, the parish church was redesigned according to the new council regulations, especially in the chancel. The high altar was expanded. The pulpit and the two side altars removed. The "Bisinger Madonna" (from 1440) was placed on the left. St. Nicholas figures were attached underneath. On the right side you can see the "Lamentation Group".In the summer of 1984, late damage from the earthquake was discovered, and the church square was redesigned and laid out. In 1986 another correction of the chancel took place. In November 1988, the parish of St. Nikolaus Bisingen celebrated its 100th anniversary. In 1865, Bisingen was first raised to a parish curate. The joy was great about finally getting their own pastor in the community. It was not until 1888 that the curacy became the parish of “St. Nicholas” Bisingen raised. In 2004, a major exterior renovation of St. Nicholas Church was carried out. A fundamental redesign and renovation of the church interior took place from 2012 to 2014. For this purpose, a separate association was founded. In the years that followed, the association and acting parish administrator, Father Artur Schreiber MSF, was very keen to renew the “heart of the church” – namely the altar along with the ambo, sedilia, tabernacle base and a Easter candle stand that went well with the ensemble. This goal was persistently pursued - and so finally on October 14th, 2018 at the altar consecration by Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Peter Birkhofer of the Archdiocese of Freiburg, the long-awaited completion of extensive construction work will be celebrated.Source: kath-bisingen-grosselfingen-rangendingen.de/wir-ueber-uns/pfarrgemeinden/sankt-nikolaus-bisingen
