Totally achievable iconic climb. The whole thing is about 10km but it’s only steep for the first 1.5km or so. There is one really nasty steep hairpin but once you’re past that you’ve nailed it! I’d rather ride up than down. Very busy on summer weekends with cyclists, motorcycles and cars (plus tourist busses) so pick your time wisely. Cars can get aggravated and impatient and it’s difficult to pass.

  • Cheddar Gorge, stunning to climb or descend with high gorge walls either side usually filled with climbers

    • May 2, 2018

  • A gradual and attackable climb with stunning surroundings. A British classic.

  • Awesome steady climb from village to summit. Not too tough for experienced riders. Enjoy coffee stop in one of the many options before you set off up the hill. Not too much cake though ;)

  • Great and very popular climb in the South of the Mendips. Twisty with some gear grinding gradients on some of the sharp corners. Watch out for the cars and walkers that flock to the gorge in summer and on nice days. Would recommend riding up then descending back down for a stop at one of Cheddars delightful cafes or tearooms. Trust me this is not the climbto do on a full stomach but you don't want to miss out on the culinary treats Cheddar has to offer at the bottom.

  • Great climb, steep to start then gets easier, don't forget to look up at the glorious cliffs.

  • Thanks for sharing man! Why is there no more (detailed) information about this ride? (distance, elevation, highlight). One tip: don't forget to check out Deers leap somewhere around Priddy. A must see if you're in the area!!

  • Great alpine style climb. Nothing too steep and great for a 20min plus challenge if you ride to the B-road junction.

    • May 28, 2019

  • Always fabulous. Careful on a windy day as you come round some of the corners through the gorge as it's like a wind tunnel! Flattens off gradually toward the top.

    • May 31, 2019

  • Great climb. Never disappoints. Take it easy, enjoy the climb

    • May 31, 2019

  • Should be on every cyclists bucket list. Once you’re through the steep 16% bit about 1/3 of the way up it gradually flattens out and before you know it you’ll be flying along grinning from ear to ear. Just lovely. The ‘top 100 climbs’ bit stops just before the Junction with the B3371, so don’t pause too early.

  • Lovely climb or descent through Cheddar Gorge. Keep your eyes open for the goats.

    • June 1, 2019

  • Good and fun climb, keep your eyes open for the goats.

    • June 1, 2019

  • One of the top 100 road climbs in the UK! A must for all cyclists local to or visiting Bath, Bristol or the surrounding areas.

    • July 9, 2019

  • Stunning scenery and steady climbing! Gradients only get tasty on the one bend, so push that out of the way and enjoy going up at your rhythm. Try and avoid crowded days/times and enjoy the company of the goats!

    • October 10, 2019

  • Lovely climb in Somerset, Highly recommended, less difficult than it looks if you take the steep early section steady. Watch out for the goats that frequent the area.

    • October 22, 2019

  • We all know cheddar gorge right? Steep at the bottom. Drag at the top. Cycling Mecca that won’t kill you but will leave you feeling good. Lots of cafes in cheddar ore climb if you wish (or post descent)

    • March 1, 2020

  • Climbing is far nicer than descending, particularly when it's busy....

    • September 4, 2020

  • A true must in the southwest!

    • May 28, 2019

  • It keeps on climbing for a long way!

    • July 14, 2019

  • Beautiful gorge and climb

    • September 15, 2019

  • It’s the gorge! Get yourself there. Go early before the traffic builds up, especially if you want a fast descent. Oh, and watch for animals in the road on those descents!

    • March 1, 2020

  • Mind the animals. Mind the tourists!
