dr Erich Klausener (1885 - 1934) was a leading representative of political Catholicism in the German Reich. From 1928 he headed the police department in the Prussian Ministry of the Interior. After the Nazis seized power, he was transferred to the Reich Ministry of Transport in 1933. Again and again he publicly opposed the anti-church policies of the Nazis. Klausner was murdered in his office in the course of the Röhm affair.

dr Erich Klausner was murdered in his office in Berlin on June 30, 1934 in the course of the Röhm affair. The main motive for his murder is his speech at the Catholic Day on June 24, 1934 at the Hoppegarten racetrack, in which he spoke out against the ideological intolerance of National Socialism. In addition, as an official in the Prussian Ministry of the Interior, Klausner was responsible for numerous police operations against the National Socialists before 1933. In memory of the speech at the Catholic Day in 1934, this square was named after him.
