The former town hall was built in 1938. After a visit by the Minister of the Interior in 1937, the then municipality of Sleen received an offer of 35,000 guilders from the work fund for combating unemployment and the construction of a new town hall. Preparations for the construction of the neo-Renaissance design by architect A. Baart from Leeuwarden were already started in the autumn of 1937. A year later, on October 3, 1938, the building was officially opened. It is now in use as a multifunctional center. mfcdebrink.nl/het-gebouw

The architect designed the building in a Neo-Dutch Renaissance style with stepped gables, monastic walls, cross windows and decorative wrought iron anchors. In doing so, he harked back to earlier architectural styles in a way that is related to the working method used within the Delft School. The use of the municipality's coat of arms - a shield with three rams' heads with two wild man as shield holders - in the south facade was also a design by the mayor of Sleen Gerlof Bontekoe. In the middle of the gable roof is a pointed turret with a gilded sphere and a cast iron weather vane on top. The dormer windows are also fitted with gable roofs. The entrance is located on the southeast side and is accessible through an extension under a gable roof. In this southeastern facade, there are three stained glass windows on the first floor with images of the coat of arms of Drenthe, the coat of arms of Sleen and the Dutch lion. The extension at the rear of the building was fitted with a pent roof.
