Animals such as rabbits, chickens, goats, various sheep and ponies can be seen on the children's and youth farm - a great offer from the Hans Wendt Foundation.

The children and youth farm was originally called "Mariannenhof". It was bought by the donor Hermann Otto Wendt in 1908. He wanted to use it as a summer residence. Wendt had grown up in agriculture himself. He named his farm after his wife Marianne, who had died 8 years earlier. His son Hans also died, a year before Marianne. Farming was run by a farm milker and other workers.

In his legacy, Hermann Otto Wendt gave the Mariannenhof a purpose: "to maintain the recreation center for the care of children who are in need of relaxation but are not ill, regardless of religious denomination".
To this day, 100 years later, the Mariannenhof is of central importance for the Hans Wendt Foundation - and has been so throughout all eras. Beginning with children's recreation after World War I, the nursing homes after World War II, the outskirts recreation center for disabled children in the 1960s, the therapy center from 1973, the kindergartens in the 1980s and the guest house in the new millennium.

Our children and youth farm has been using the large area since 1995. After the turn of the millennium, extensive renaturation with a great deal of voluntary commitment made the site attractive again, both for our animals and for the many groups of children and other visitors.

In September 2020, the Borgfeld children's and youth farm was officially recognized as Bremen's first Ark Park. With maintenance breeding, the youth farm contributes to the continued existence of old domestic and farm animal breeds that are threatened with extinction. In addition, a wide range of educational opportunities for children and young people in relation to biodiversity, ecological animal husbandry, nutrition and resource protection will be created.

Today, the children and youth farm has acquired the same importance that our founder wrote in his legacy. It is an identity-forming basis for the work of the employees in the various facilities throughout Bremen.”
