The small parish village is located in the Kersbach valley, on the south side of the Rothenberg between Speikern, Rollhofen, Siegersdorf, Rabenshof, Enzenreuth, Weißenbach and the Glatzenstein in the Nürnberger Land district.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1344 and a church can be found in 1363, although before this time there must have been a chapel dedicated to Saint Helena.
The fate of the village depended heavily on the fortunes of the nearby Rothenberg Fortress.
During the 30 Years' War, Kersbach burned down completely and was immediately rebuilt afterwards.

Kersbach lies idyllically embedded in the landscape below the Glatzenstein. Worth seeing the cath. St. Ottillien Church in the town centre.
