Hiking

One of the most traditional markets on Gran Canaria can be found in San Mateo. In two market halls, mainly food, herbs, honey, fresh vegetables, cheese and baked goods are sold. Market days in San Mateo are always Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We had to take a detour right at the beginning because there was no path at the marked spot. Where the detour ended and we returned to the marked path, there is private property fenced in, and it appears to have been fenced in for some time. The section through sand and volcanic gravel is extremely steep, slippery, and therefore strenuous.
