If you have come along the towpath, you can reach the ice cream parlor at the bridge over a very short paved road, approx. 50 m and enjoy the view with the ice, the bike will always remain in view when you sit outside, in good weather it will be Ice cream parlor and the old town unfortunately relatively crowded.

Essen Kettwig is with about 12 kilometers quite far out of the city center and was until 1975 also a separate city. It hardly comes as a surprise that you are not running a big Ruhrpottcity here, but a cozy little town on the edge of the Ruhr. Kettwig was spared during World War II reasonably spared, so you will find here a really beautiful old town, which is not wrong as one of the most beautiful in the Ruhr.

If you go to Kettwig, you will land more or less automatically at the town hall. Absolutely worth seeing but not the highlight. To find the most beautiful part of the old city, you have to look a bit into the narrow streets. Behind the protestant church we start. Through a narrow staircase you come in the middle of a beautiful collection of old half-timbered houses including cobblestones. Here are also some really cool located cafes and restaurants.

Also worth seeing is the dam with lock over the Ruhr, about which you almost automatically come when you leave the old town.

Kettwig is easily accessible by train from Essen and Dusseldorf.
