In the Middle Ages, intensive mining activity in Kutná Hora disrupted the lower springs and the town had problems ensuring a sufficient amount of drinking water for its residents. This problem was solved in 1495 by building a dodecagonal stone fountain on what is now Reysk Square. The covered well originally served as a water reservoir, into which drinking water from the St. Vojtěch spring near Bylan, 2.5 km away, was supplied through a wooden pipe. In this way, the city was supplied with drinking water until 1890. The late Gothic fountain in the form of a twelve-sided prism was probably the work of the Wroclaw master builder Brikcí.

The fountain served as a drinking water reservoir until 1890. In 1887–1890 it was restored by Ludvík Lábler.

The intense mining activity simmering in Kutná Hora during the medieval period led to the disruption of underground springs, causing the city to have problems providing enough drinking water. The solution to the problem was the construction of a stone fountain on today's Reiskov Square in 1495. Initially, it was covered with a roof and served as a reservoir - drinking water entered it through wooden pipes from the spring of St. Adalbert near Bylan, 2.5 kilometers from Kutna Hora, right up to 1890. The author of the fountain in the late Gothic style was most likely the master Brikci from Wroclaw.
