Cinema and gastronomy - or vice versa - is the elixir of life for the Meier family in Lemförde-Quernheim. This cinema has existed since 1952, when the dance hall of the Meier'schen Gaststätte was converted into a cinema with 180 seats. And it has made quite a few headlines across the country over the past few decades. Where others show off their size, Quernheim and the Meier family make people's eyes wide open with their rather small numbers. The town in the Lower Saxony-North Rhine-Westphalia border area is home to around 400 souls, but has three cinemas to offer - making it Germany's smallest cinema village. There are two cinemas and an open-air cinema - and all in an ambience that is worth seeing in itself.
