A beautiful castle with an equally beautiful castle garden, which is freely accessible - especially the Chinese-Japanese garden is magical and worth seeing. The history of the castle dates back to 1571.
Built in 1893/94, Tremsbüttel mansion, with its neo-renaissance style elements, is a typical architectural monument of the Wilhelminian style and historicism. Today, the fairytale castle between the Hanseatic cities of Hamburg and Lübeck serves as a conference and congress center as well as a wonderful location for weddings and other private celebrations.
The great nobility Gut Tremsbüttel was sold in 1475 to the Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg, who used it as a bailiwick and hunting lodge. As a pledge, it came in 1571 to the Dukes of Schleswig -Holstein-Gottorf, who converted it as sovereigns in an office. The court buildings fell into disrepair during the 18th century and became almost uninhabitable.
In 1800, Count Christian zu Stolberg gave up the Amtmannstelle and sold the estate. After that, the owners changed in quick succession. The administration was merged in 1802 with the offices Reinbek and Trittau. A new section in the history of the estate was the takeover by the businessman Remscheid Alfred Hasenclever (1859-1908) and his wife Olga, daughter of the previous owner Strack. These were the present mansion or "castle" built in 1893/94 by the Berlin architects Hans Grisebach and Georg Dinklage.

In the 18th century Tremsbüttel continued serving as a ducal official residence, which was administered from 1777 to 1800 by Christian Stolberg-Stolberg. Under the ducal bailiff the estate experienced a cultural heyday. Stolberg had a new manor house built on the estate around 1780, landscaped gardens and welcomed guests such as Matthias Claudius, Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock and Wilhelm von Humboldt on the estate.
The castle Tremsbüttel experienced its heyday in the 60s and 70s as a meeting place of the Hamburg and international society. Well-known names such as Leonard Bernstein, Sophia Loren, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones as well as Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff, Heidi Kabel, Walter Scheel, Curd Jürgens, Inge Meysel and Rudi Carrell were among the guests.
On the grounds of the castle there was also a car museum for a few years, mainly equipped with vintage cars, later relocated to Hamburg and closed in 1997. The museum I had visited then and was very impressed.kreis-stormarn.de/freizeit-und-tourismus/herrenhaeuser/tremsbuettel.html

The enchanting and interesting Chinese-Japanese Garden follows Buddhist rules. A lot of water and stones as well as economical planting are included. And ways that never lead straight to the goal. That's supposed to stop evil spirits.stormerland.de/parks/gaertenparks.htm
