The tower, which is part of the "Upper Gate" gate system of the city fortifications of Northeim, was built in 1468. The height is 9 m and the walls are up to 2.90 m thick. The tower has 6 loopholes. In 1743 the tower was converted by the Northeim brewery for brewing purposes. In 1972 the beer brewery in Northeim was closed.
