The extensive baroque monastery complex (built 1697-1706 by Franz Beer) with the high-Gothic Salem Minster (ca. 1285-1414) became the property of the Margraves of Baden in 1802 through secularization. Since then, the complex has borne the name "Salem Castle" and has served as the residence of the margravial family and, since 1920, as the seat of the boarding school Schule Schloss Salem. In the spring of 2009, the house of Baden sold most of the facility to the state of Baden-Württemberg.(Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichsabtei_Salem)
