Tips

  • In the founding document of the Hofbräuhaus, the building is referred to as "Duke Ludwig's House", which is why historians estimate that it was built in the last third of the 13th century. Over the centuries, the Zerwirk vault was used for various purposes (including as an annex to the Hofbräuhaus). The name of the building comes from its original function: because in the vaulted structure animals were “processed” (hunter's language for “dismantling, preparing”). The building with the impressive groin vault and the frescoes on the east and south sides probably originally belonged to the ducal Falcon House on Burgstrasse, but was separated around 1590 and was owned by the Schlichtinger family until 1733.Most recently, the studio stages of the Gärtnerplatztheater (from 1989) and the Bavarian Theater Academy (from 2001) were housed in the Zerwirkgewächse, after a special shop for game. The winding rooms are now used for catering.(muenchen.de/gehenswuerdigkeiten/bauwerke-und-denkmaeler/zerwirkgewoelbe)

  • In the Graggenau quarter in the old town. From the 13th century. In the beginning it was called Herzog Ludwig Haus. Around 1600 it served as a falcon house. From 1733 to 1808 it belonged to the Hofbräu brewery. After that, the butcher shop for venison was in the building, hence the name. Inside there are two vaulted halls. There was a restaurant here until 2019, and it has been completely renovated since 2020. There are two frescoes on the outer wall: Ledererstraße - hunters with game, and a fresco on Sparkassenstraße,
