Here, the brine was transported to the high reserves with a water wheel via a piston mechanism to drive the pump. The pump house, together with the former administrative (official) floor on Salinstraße, is the only building in the former Rosenheim salt works

The brine pump house - the lifting machines
When installing the brine lines, differences in height in the terrain had to be overcome again and again. With an expanded network of pipes and a correspondingly greater pumping capacity, the conventional water power machine, the water wheel, was no longer sufficient. At first, water wheel machines were still in use, but the pressure works could no longer ensure that the brine was raised to the necessary height.
For this reason, Georg von Reichenbach designed water column machines, which in principle worked in a similar way to steam engines, only the steam propellant was replaced by water, since this fuel was particularly recommended for economic reasons.
These water column machines formed the drive part for the actual brine lifting machines.
Reichenbach's constructions were regarded as masterpieces of technology right from the start and soon became monuments in the history of technology.
In Rosenheim, however, no Reichenbach water column machine started the pump. The brine was still transported to the high reserves according to the old method with a water wheel via a piston mechanism to drive the pump.

On the way from Bad Reichenhall to Munich, the salt dissolved in water was transported via pipes and intermediate pumping stations to Rosenheim. The brine pump house in Rosenheim was part of this transport chain; from there, the salty water was pumped into the local saltworks and its brewhouses.
