The Wildhofwald is a light, shrub-rich beech forest with oaks, sycamores, hornbeams and wych elms, as well as species-rich swamp forests of alders and ash trees in damp depressions. The herb layer varies depending on the nutrient content, with woody millet on acidic soils and pearl grass, golden nettle and woodruff on more nutrient-rich sites. The ecological diversity is maintained through natural management with different age groups and the reduction of non-native woody plants.
