This 180-year-old viaduct designed by railway pioneer George Stephenson has undergone a multi-million-pound restoration to improve passenger journeys and secure its future for generations to come.

The impressive Stephenson viaduct which has just had a multimillion-pound facelift. Built in 1840 and designed by George Stephenson, it has large stone towers with cast-iron and steel bridge between. According to English Heritage it is “The most outstanding railway bridge on the line.” And we’d agree, definitely worth stopping for a photo or two!
