The main castle of Burgau Castle looks back on an eventful history. Built at the beginning of the 14th century by the Counts of Heinsberg and given to Wilhelm von Burgau as a fief, the romantic moated castle now presents itself in a new splendor. Destroyed in 1944, ruined until 1975 and restored since 1998, Burgau Castle is once again the jewel of the city of Düren. The hallmark of Burgau Castle is the bay window, built in 1551 (donated from a happy marriage), which defines the image of the south tower of Burgau Castle. The outer bailey, built too French. Zeit is today home to the Niederau local association and a festival or concert hall for the Düren population. The castle café is also located here, where visitors can relax with a coffee and cake after a wonderful walk in the woods and around the pond of Burgau castle.

The coffee is closed on Mondays. I find it comfortable there and it is always a small digestive walk around the castle or the shelter with sightseeing distance <1000m. Also suitable for non-hikers. Parking at the castle in sufficient numbers. Everyone can do that, even diehard non-goers, wheelchair users and people with walking difficulties find their fun here.
