Today the colliery no longer mines coal, but still brings a lot of interesting information to light. Around 550 members of the "Schacht 3 Hückelhoven e.V." association have invested 150,000 hours of voluntary work to turn the colliery into an adventure site. Today visitors to Sophia-Jacoba can experience the old world of miners live. The machine house, the shaft hall and the colliery with equipment from the mining industry are free to visit. The exhibition includes a mine bike, the last coal mined and an image of "Saint Barbara", the patron saint of miners.

High-proof souvenir: mine water, Knappentrunk and Klarer

During a 90-minute tour, the guests hear stories from the hard life underground and learn a few "mining" phrases. Afterwards, the association serves culinary delicacies from the miners. For a small fee, the visitor gets a portion of hearty stew or a "miner's steak" from the charcoal grill. As a "dessert", the board of directors Franz-Josef Sonnen presents amusing and interesting things from his own miner's life.
