The former Pretlack'sche Palais (Pretlack'sches Schloss) was built in 1719 by the Hesse-Darmstadt general Johann Rudolf Victor von Pretlack using demolition stones from Rodenstein Castle. An extensive park belonged to the castle, which is no longer available today. Most of the castle was renovated in 1802 before it came into municipal ownership in 1860. Since then it has been used as a school and post office. The town hall has been housed here since 1968.
The castle property also includes the former coach house, which today, along with other newer extensions, is used as a fire-fighting equipment house.
Pretlack was a German cavalry general and general field marshal-lieutenant and lived from 1668 to 1737. He made a name for himself in the Palatinate and Spanish Wars of Succession, among other things. He had eight children from two marriages.
