Built in the 14th century, the Château de Pierrefonds was the seat of Duke Louis of Orléans. Then dismantled in the 17th century, Napoleon III decided to rebuild it from the ruins. It was the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc who took care of the work to make it a medieval-style castle.
