The Wijnhuistoren in Zutphen is an example of a bell tower with a carillon. The tower was built between 1616 and 1642 and is part of the inn "zu Vreden", which is already mentioned before 1326. The oldest construction phase is still present in the basement and dates from around 1300. The function of Vreden or Het Wijnhuis was, in addition to that of an inn, also a city weighing house, residence of the city guard and place of public announcements of the city council.
