The giant sequoia is an evergreen tree, which can reach heights of growth of up to 95 m and a trunk diameter of up to 17 m at the very wide spreading base. In general, the breast height diameter (in 1.30 m height) of old trees 3 to 6 m, in the maximum about 8 m. The tree forms a tall, narrow conical crown, whereby the stems can be free of knots up to 50 m in age. The crowns of the famous largest specimens look "broken" only because of suffered storm and lightning damage.
