The Hersbrucker Alb - also known as Hersbrucker Schweiz or Pegnitz-Alb - is the northeastern part of the Franconian Alb near Hersbruck. It is crossed by the Pegnitz and its tributaries.

In the west, the Hersbrucker Alb extends to the Schnaittach valley. It is bordered by Lauf an der Pegnitz and Hiltpoltstein to the west, Betzenstein to the north, Auerbach and Sulzbach-Rosenberg to the east, and Alfeld to the south. It is mostly in Middle Franconia and the Upper Palatinate, to a lesser extent in Upper Franconia.

The Hersbrucker Alb includes the White Jurassic table of hard, brittle and karst mass and reef limestone and the Franconian dolomite together with their more recent editions. Numerous caves and a striking rocky landscape gave the area the name "Hersbrucker Schweiz" (formerly "Nuremberg Switzerland"). The Hersbrucker Alb is part of the Northern Franconian Jura climbing area. The name "Alb" was derived from the Latin expression montes albi (white mountains). More likely, however, the term Alb is an old Celtic name and means 'mountain pasture'.

The Ossinger 651.1 m above sea level. NN forms the highest point of the Hersbrucker Alb.
