The Mainschleife Urphar is a nature reserve near Wertheim am Main. It is a popular destination for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers who want to enjoy the diverse flora and fauna of the floodplain landscape. The Urphar Main loop offers a beautiful view of Wertheim Castle and the historic old town. The area is also an important habitat for rare animal and plant species, such as the kingfisher, the beaver and the marsh iris. The Mainschleife Urphar is an example of the successful renaturation of a section of river that was previously straightened and canalized. By restoring the natural dynamics of the Main, a species-rich floodplain landscape was developed that has a high ecological value.
